The first stage involves taking a high-speed double-decker TGV Duplex train from Paris to Barcelona Sants station. Direct Trains leave Paris Gare de Lyon first thing in the morning and then additionally in the early afternoon. This train passes along a scenic route and calls at Montpellier St Roche, Perpignan and Girona on a journey that takes around 6 hours and 25 minutes. Another option is to take an overnight train from Paris-Austerlitz Station to Barcelona which departs at 11:43 p.m. Passengers then switch to an AVE high-speed train for the 2.30 hour trip to Madrid. These trains depart every 30 minutes during peak periods.
